So far we have covered your website structure, products, pricing and accepting payments online. This week we cover what content you need for your website. The second biggest issue after your product catalogue is the content for the rest of your website. If you are accepting credit cards online there are statutory requirements that your bank and credit card merchant will require you to have.
Below is a minimum list of pages that will require content and a general guide as to what the page should contain.
The Welcome page text should be welcoming and mainly aimed at Search Engine Optimization. This text should contain your main keywords that people will use when searching for your website.
The About Us page is very important: it is the page that the nervous online shopper visits most if they are unsure of whether to use you to purchase. This page should really demonstrate who you are and help raise your credibility.
Your contact page must have your full phone number AND a physical address for your business, this is a requirement for your credit card merchant account.
You should explain your delivery policy clearly and in depth if possible include details such as:
You will also require a number of pages to satisfy the banks and assure your customers of your and their legal obligations.
Before writing the summary text you need to do some homework and understand what keywords you are targeting and how these will link with the content and various pages of your website.
The objective at the end of the day is to build a site with content that is actually relevant to what the users are searching for!
If you have 100 pages and you need 500 words on each that's approximately 50,000 words to be written! The best way is to outsource this as a job lot with your Content strategy as the brief, and you would expect to pay around $2000 - $3000 for this to be written.
Of course if these were product pages you could go for 250 words per product and get more content.
