Probably one of the most vexed and difficult business decisions for a florist is how to set the delivery cost and how to The traditional ways of setting the cost are:
- Free or included Delivery - absorbing the cost into the product
- Flat rate charge for all locations
- Postcode Range - Charge a cost based on the range of postcodes
- Postcode Charge - Charge a specific amount for each postcode
However we have found that these options are not always appropriate especially in rural areas where one postcode can be shared by multiple suburbs over tens of kilometers. Thus the cost of delivering to the local community is substantially different to the outer community with the same postcode.
Charging by Postcode Range is great for some florists
In building the software we have always tried to give the customer the easiest way of doing something. For example entering postcode ranges for delivery charges is great for a florist delivering all over Australia. Because of the difficulties of customers entering suburb names all in the same spelling the postcode which is far easier to use has been a simpler way to charge shipping costs.
Shipping costs based on suburbs and only suburbs listed for delivery
However it did not meet the needs of all our customers, so we have developed the ability to list suburbs and a price for each suburb for delivery
This also has the added benefit of limiting the areas that you will deliver too as well. This feature is only available in our new responsive design / eCommerce funnel for our Premium and Innovator customers. The customer will see a drop down list on the cart summary page of the suburbs that you deliver to and will allow them to calculate their shipping costs.
Set Up the Suburb Shipping costs
It's quite easy to set up, simply log into your website dashboard and choose Shipping from the settings menu.
Scroll down the page until you see Suburb Shipping Costs and turn the button to on:
Then SAVE the settings.
When this has saved scroll down to the link Manage the Suburb Charges Here
- Then one by one enter the suburb name, postcode and price.
Your customers will now ONLY be able to order flowers through the drop down list on the shopping cart summary page and the checkout
